Grenadier

Early Access – Day 76 – February 19, 2025
Mercenary is the last class I hadn’t tried. I did try crossbows but not grenades so I levelled up a Grenadier using Gas Grenade, Explosive Grenade, Flash Grenade, Oil Grenade, well all the grenades… here is my experience… TLDR stopped short because of headaches.
I followed ZiggyD Maxroll Grenade Mercenary Leveling Guide which is great. I also tried to level with the Radiant Grief helmet but I didn’t like it. Levelling was ok, not bad, not great, just ok. I think it was my first time doing the campaign deathless in 12 hours, granted I was able to use good gear as it was late in the league.
When progressing through the Atlas, I followed the Havoc616 Maxroll Gas Grenade Gemling Legionnaire Guide. This is a good guide too. I made mini tweaks such as I preferred using Voltaic Grenade rather than Artillery Ballista as I couldn’t keep the ballista alive.
I stopped playing this character in yellow/red maps at level 76 (gem level 16/20, 5L) as I just couldn’t. Main reason being the grenades exploding with the green, red and yellow lights would just give me headaches. Maybe with a late gen graphic card, I could get the higher resolution and textures and it wouldn’t be that bad? I tried to play with the graphic settings but couldn’t figure a solution.
I wasn’t an absolute fan of the gameplay neither so I just stopped. But this is a good build archetype, the guides are great so check out below for more info as it could be a better fit for you.

I debated not including these stars as I only played until level 76 so this is highly biased.
Impossible to be fair but I'm trying my best. I'm trying to get all characters to lvl 90, 4 ascendancies, 5L, gem level 19 and under 10 div.
What I liked
- Felt tanky – Didn’t die during the campaign, only died twice on my way to red maps. Not sure why as I didn’t invest in tanky, I guess the class and playstyle promote good defenses.
- Attributes – I think it might one of the first build where I didn’t have to struggle with attribute when levelling. Not a great + but still a +
What I disliked
- Headaches – As mentioned earlier, I felt blinded with every grenades pop and would get headaches.
- Too many buttons – I’m an old lazy man so these was a bit too intense for me.
- Delay – You have to wait for the grenade to explode after launching them. It felt worse than totems, mines and traps. Maybe at end game, with a lot of investment it would feel better?
- DPS – It felt a bit lacking, not horrible, but when you play many buttons and a delay, you’d assume big payoff and it didn’t feel like it. Again, maybe at end game, with a lot of investment it would feel better?
- Bridges – I couldn’t figure out sometimes why mobs wouldn’t die, then looking closer, you can see your grenades boucing off the bridge floor and falling into the abysses in some maps.
Would I play it again?
